Why OEKO-TEX®?
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 has been developed to meet the customer’s need for healthy textile products around early 1990’s. “Poisonous textile” news were appearing frequently in the news and it was giving the textile-chemicals a bad fame.
However, our demand for modern textile products cannot be satisfied without use of certain chemicals. Fashionable colors, easy maintenance, long life and many other specifications are demanded today and sometimes according to purpose of use(i.e.work clothing) they partly become essential properties.
Until OEKO-TEX® Standards 100 there was no product label to indicate the textile quality versus human ecology, and there was no standard measurement for the textile industrialists to be able to evaluate the effects of possibly harmful substances in textile products. Accordingly, Austrian textile research institute Österreichische Textil-Forschungsinstitut (ÖTI) and German research institute Forschungsinstitut Hohenstein, taking basis the test standards available for them; have developed Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 standard.
